The Reading League, a non-profit professional organization, is comprised of stakeholders who are dedicated to advancing the awareness, understanding, and use of evidence-based reading instruction. We are a unified community that believes in empowering emerging and established educators to become highly effective in their instruction of reading via advancing their knowledge of highly effective methods. We collaborate to provide professional development through local, live events every other month, video presentations, and school-based sessions.

The theme of the 2017 conference is
“Advancing Evidence Into Practice: Effective Reading Instruction Begins With You!”

Two decades of research have revealed the importance of teacher knowledge about how reading develops and how it is most effectively taught. We believe that prioritizing educator knowledge above specific methods, strategies, programs, or curricula, helps educators become inspired and enabled to create highly effective instruction for all readers, including those who are underperforming.

We welcome proposals related to improving educator knowledge such as:

v Session topics related to reading instruction, reading development, professional development, dyslexia, assessment, and similar topics.
v Evidence-based methods for teaching students how to decode, recognize, and spell words

Presentations will be 75 minutes in length (including time for questions).

Abstracts should be no longer than 180 words. Proposals should be no longer than 1000 words and should include the following sections: 1) topic of the presentation, 2) proposal objectives, 3) relevance to the teaching or assessment of reading, 4) evidence supporting the practice, 5) names and institutional affiliations of presenter(s)

Proposals will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

· Significance and usefulness of the topic to teaching or the assessment of reading
· Strength of evidence supporting the topic/presentation
· Connection to the conference theme
· Clarity of proposal

Questions regarding proposal submissions can be directed to:
