USA: The Reading Wars: Understanding the Debate Over How Best to Teach Children to Read

Postby Debbie_Hepplewhite » Tue Jul 10, 2018 12:53 am

This piece includes some commentary on the politics behind the National Reading Panel's summaries and on the work of Professor Diane McGuinness who made a significant contribution to the debate not only in America but also in England. One could wonder whether her 'prototype' list of how to identify a good phonics programme was the forerunner of the Government in England's 'Core Criteria' for evaluating phonics programmes.
