I think this article from Psychology Today is well worth a read:

Do we also have a generation of youngsters who are great as 'swipey, swipey' activities but not at 'grippy, grippy' activities?

By that I mean the dominance of devices which require 'swiping' and finger-touch control relative to the demise of activities for little fingers which require a pincer-grip and different movements and strengths in fingers and hands?

What difference might this make in both the short term and the long term?

I think parents and teachers really need to be aware of the change in dominant activities for the younger generations.

Bring back knitting and sewing but for all children (not just the girls) and replace all those mini whiteboard activities for writing in schools with paper and pencil activities.

That's what I suggest anyway!
